Annette Egerström
I was born and raised in Mexico City and then moved to the United States to study at Stanford University, where I obtained a B.S. and M.S. degree in Chemistry and Physics. I was part of Edward Solomon’s lab, where I developed kinetic time course simulations and performed stopped flow experiments to elucidate the reaction mechanism of the tyrosinase enzyme.
After finishing my studies, I moved to my parents’ home country of Sweden and worked for the enzyme engineering team at a start-up company called EnginZyme. Here, I gained skills in high-throughput experimentation, enzyme characterisation, and fed-batch bioreactors. I stayed in Sweden for three years and then moved to Manchester to start my PhD in the Lovelock group, where I am currently working on the enzymatic synthesis of 3’-protected nucleotides for template independent oligonucleotide synthesis.
Outside of the lab, I love spending time outdoors, travelling, drawing, and playing the viola.
